Different fluids have varying unit weights, also known as liquid density.
On Monday the 11th of April 2016, we completed an experiment on water density using a pint glass, a range of liquids and solids.
First we filled the glass with water, then we started to fill it up. Here is the order from less dense to most dense:
- Vegetable oil
- Washing up liquid
- Water
- Milk
- Tomato
- Honey
- Beads
- Screw
Our end result:
Doesn’t it look very appetising! Not!
Challenge question: What makes some objects sink deeper into the column while some hardly sink at all?
We really enjoyed this experiment and learnt lots! 🙂
