‘Willkommen Herr Botschafter zu unsere Schule’ (Welcome Mr Ambassador to our school!)
On the 13th of June 2017, Holmpatrick National School was honoured to receive a visit from the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Mr Matthias Höpfner.
The German Ambassador spoke about his life growing up in Germany, his early career path in law and the German Diplomatic Service, his family and how he had worked in the German Embassy in Indonesia and later as Deputy Head of Mission in the Germany Embassy in Tripoli in Libya. He later went on to serve as German Ambassador in Ottawa, Canada and Sofia, Bulgaria prior to coming to serve as the German Ambassador to Ireland in 2014.
Ambassador Höpfner went on to further give very generously of his time in providing thoughtful answers during the student question and answer session following his speech about his role as the German ambassador.
